Istria & Kvarner cuisine

Today, we are going to introduce You to the healthiest cuisine in the world, the Mediterranean, typical for  Istria & Kvarner, mostly based on the sea food and olive oil.


This region is rich with excellent fish and seafood: scampi, calamari, shellfish, zubatac, orada, brancin, etc. Except this, many restaurants also offer fish soups, fish stew, boiled prawns, black and white frutti di mare risotto, as well as other typical dishes like pljukanci and fuži (type of pasta). In Istria you can try different types of minestrone like ragout (jota), minestrone with chickpeas or with corn. One of the main stars in the cuisine are black and white truffles which grow in Istrian woods. Truffles are found with specially trained dogs and pigs. The biggest truffle that was found and is written down in the book of Guinness records had 1,31 kilogram and it was found in year 1999.  This mushrooms have the reputation of containing aphrodisiac properties.

In Istria and Kvarner You will find one of the best prosciutto an olive oil in the world. Simple but delicious well known meal is omelet with ham and asparagus. They are spring vegetable, which people pick in the wood and mix with ham, eggs and sausage. Either You are a meat lover or vegetarian, You will definitely enjoy in the Mediterranean cuisine.


Our recommendation

To get the best of Mediterranean cuisine, we recommend You to try one of the well known appetizers, medica (snaphs with honey) or biska before meal. After, You can start with  Istrian soup made of black wine with grilled bread. For the main dish, the best choice one of our amazingly tasty fishes. You can finish Your meal with delicious desert like štrukle or kroštule while enjoying the best wines in Croatia- Malvazija, Cabarnet, Sauvignon, Merlot, Teran, Zlahtina of Vrbnik  or  sparkling wine Bakarska Vodica.
