What to do in Opatija?
Walk on a beautiful Frank Joseph I. promenade that goes from Volosko to Lovran (small places close to Opatija) and enjoy in the beautiful views at Kvarner bay.
Walking along the Opatija lungomare you can enjoy beautiful sea view but also learn about Opatija history and see old luxury villas that are along the promenade.The park Angiolina is well-know because of flower Kamelija – the beautiful flower from Philippines. This flower is also a symbol of Opatija. There is also Villa Angelina, the building that marked the beginning of the tourist epoch in the history of Opatija. Go further and you can see “Juraj Šporer” Arts Pavilion which was build in 1900. First this was a pastry shop – the fresh cakes were supplied daily by train from Vienna and Pest. After 1930. the property became an exhibition pavilion.
The ideal spot where you can see all kind of performances is Open Air Theatre of Opatija. Here you can enjoy in many vairous social events like jazz, rock and pop concerts, ballet, opera… If you loving art, Opatija will amaze you. Beautiful Austrian villas, decorated parks and sculptures are located all over the city. The biggest sculpture in the town is the one of Miroslav Krleža – Croatian greatest writer of the 20th century. The interesting fact is that the same sculpture is located in Budampest.
Just a few steps from this sculpture, you can see a statue of Boatman – a statue dedicated to people of Opatija which helped this city become what is today: A luxury European tourist resort.
The Croatian Walk of Fame project in Opatija was launched in 2005. This project is a symbolic tribute to all the people whose sporting, scientific, cultural or artistic endeavors have significantly contributed to the worldwide promotion of Croatia.
